New Hope Trojans Football

1st Week of Practice

August 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

1st Week of Practice August 9th, 2007 The first week of practice has gone very well considering the unbearable heat that our players, managers, and coaches have had to endure. The players have responded to the conditions with a good attitude and have been coachable throughout the week. We have worked mainly on conditioning, mental toughness, and creating a culture of We as opposed to a culture of me. Several of the players have taken on some leadership roles that have really pleased the coaching staff. As I have said numerous times, our attitude is the main thing that is keeping us down. The coaching staff is encouraged by the excitement that the players have shown this week. Several potential players did not make it through the week for one reason or another, which is disheartening, but it should be noted that not one player that completed the weightlifting and conditioning requirements has decided to give up football. If our players, parents, and community will continue to support our efforts to establish a consistent off-season program, the efforts will bear fruit in the near future. Some Items to Remember: 1. Please encourage your son to drink at least 8 (eight) bottles of water a day. Bigger players (over 250 pounds) need to drink at least 10 bottles of water. Please encourage your son to refrain from drinking Cokes or other carbonated, caffiene filled drinks. 2. If possible, have your son drink a sports beverage (gatorade, powerade, squincher, etc…) within the first hour after practice ends. 3. Pictures are Friday, August 10, at 1:30 at the Stadium. Package forms have been sent home with the players. 4. Those of you who wish to purchase an ad honoring your player in the football program must turn in your money and what you want on the ad by August 10. 5. First day of full contact is Monday, August 13. 6. We will have our first scrimmage on Thursday night, August 16, at 6:00 pm at the Stadium. 7. Booster club meeting is August 20 at the library, 7:30pm. PLEASE COME and help plan support for the Trojans! 8. Cleats are available to purchase through the booster club. I have the list of the type cleat your player picked and I also have a balance for the amount your player owes. The boosters are paying part of the cost. Please contact me or one of the coaches for more information. 9. Jamboree at home August 24th. We play Kemper County at 6:00 pm and West Lowndes at 9:00pm. Thanks to everyone who has supported the program. Together, we will make success happen. GO TROJANS! Coach B Football term of the week is counter trey.
