Directions

New Hope High School and Trojan Field is located in southeast Lowndes County on New Hope Road.

Directions to New Hope:

Google maps has a good depiction of the local roads.  Enter the search term - New Hope High School Columbus Ms – and Google maps will get you close but not exact.  On the Google maps image, the school is located on New Hope Road between Enlow Drive and Old Yorkville Road.  Trojan Field is located directly across New Hope Road from Old Yorkville Road.   Yahoo maps has a good but 5-6 years old satelite image of the area when Trojan Field was under construction.

From US 82:  There are 2 good routes to New Hope School from Columbus, a shorter and more traffic congested route with a midpoint shortest option, and a slightly longer but less traffic and easier route.

Easiest (but longer by 4-5 miles) route considering 5pm traffic - Continue on US 82 east through Columbus for approximately 8 miles from the central Columbus commercial area to the Stokes Road exit.

  This exit is about 1 mile from the Alabama state line.  Turn right on Stokes Road and proceed 1/4 mile to the junction with 182 (Shell Station and convenience store) , turn right on 182.  See image below.

Travel approximately 2 miles back westward on 182 to the 4 way stop - this is New Hope Road (BP station on right, Shell on left).

New Hope Road Railroad Crossing

Turn left onto New Hope Road and proceed 4 miles to New Hope School.   Trojan Field is located on the right.   New Hope Road is a 40mph road with curves and hills and a railroad crossing with signal lights.

 

 

 

Shorter (by 4-5 miles) but more traffic route:

US 82 exit onto MS12/50

Continue east on US 82 through Columbus approximately 3 miles to the Highway 50/12 exit.  At the traffic signal at the end of the exit ramp turn left (two left hand lanes can turn left).

Continue approximately 3/4 mile to the traffic light (Dutch Village Shell on right) and turn right on Lehmberg Road.

Continue south on Lehmberg Road for 1.8 miles to the traffic light at MS-182 (BankFirst Bank on the left, Bullets Convenience Store/Shell Station on the right), turn left onto MS-182.  Continue east on 182 approximately 2.2 miles to the 4 way stop – this is New Hope Road (Shell on right, BP on left).  Turn right on New Hope Road and proceed 4 miles to New Hope School with Trojan Field on the right.  

 

A third route that is shortest takes off from the one above at the traffic light at Lehmberg and 182 (BankFirst Bank on the left, Bullets Convenience Store/Shell Station on the right). 

Continue straight across 182 and proceed south on South Lehmberg Road (railroad crossing here

with signal lights and drop down barrier arms) 1.8 miles to the stop sign T junction with Armstrong Road, turn right.  In about 200 feet, there is a T junction with Yorkville Road, turn left.  Continue on Yorkville Road eastward for 2.3 miles to the T junction with New Hope Road, turn right.  Proceed 1/2 mile south on New Hope Road to New Hope School with Trojan Field on the right.

This Yahoo Maps image shows our school buildings.  The Trojan Football Field is to the northwest of the school buildings and it shows our under construction Trojan Field from a few years ago.  You may use this as a starting point and zoom out and move the map around to see the local topography.

The visitor’s grandstand is on the south side of the field and the visitor’s fieldhouse/dressing room is farther to the south.  The visitors gate is on the southwest side of the field to the west of the visitor grandstand by the concession stand/restroom building, and there is a team gate on the east side of the visitor grandstand.  This aerial photo from the north shows the visitor’s locker room at the top left.

Trojan Field

Columbus exits off US 82 traveling East, all Columbus exits after crossing the Tenn-Tom Waterway bridge.

1.  Downtown Columbus: High Speed exit - mainstreet, Harveys Restaurant, Reubens Restaurant, MUW

2.  Fifth Street South exit:  High Speed exit – downtown Columbus, Harveys Restaurant, MUW.

3. Highway 45 North/ 5th street North exit:  Very Low speed curl back 270 degree exit - Lots of fast food restaurants, Holiday Inn, gas, convenience stores, mall, WalMart, K-mart, Ryans Restaurant, Sante Fe Cattle Co., Appleby’s,  Chilis, etc. CAFB about 5 miles farther north

4. 18th Avenue exit:  High Speed Exit - turn right to Barnhills, turn left and then right at the second light to Hospital, continue straight through lights on 18th to reach hwy 45 area listed in #3.

5.  Military Road exit:  Medium Speed Exit - Brickerton (Bartahatchie Outback restaurant), Hampton Inn, Wingate Inn, County Club, Lowe’s

6.  Highway 12/50 exit:  High Speed Exit - More congested but more direct route to New Hope.  Columbus High School, East Columbus, Marty’s Steak House, Bullets Hamburgers.

7.  Stokes Road exit:  High Speed Exit - Longer but less traffic route to New Hope.  State Line Shell Station.

Leaving the venue:

You may drive directly back to New Hope Road from the parking lot.

Another option is to use Stadium Road, a gravel road to the west of Trojan Field which runs north to New Hope Road (just south of the New Hope Road – Yorkville road east junction) and south to New Hope Road.

If you take the southern arm of this gravel road, you may leave the area by turning right at the stop sign onto Oswalt Road, thereby driving away from the postgame congestion.  At the 4 way stop on Oswalt, turn right and proceed to the T junction stop where you are at Yorkville Road.  Turn left on Yorkville Road and travel westward to Armstrong Road and the dogleg connection to South Lehmberg Road.

 

If you miss the turn onto Armstrong continue on to the traffic light - this is Highway 69 and turn right.  Continue straight north on highway 69 to highway 182.  You may turn left onto 182 and continue on through Columbus to US 82, or you may continue straight northward to the T junction and turn right and proceed to US 82 west onramp.
